Kauai police apprehended a suspect on Monday in connection with a shooting incident in Kilauea.
Officers say they have arrested 32-year-old Kaleo Martin for Attempted Murder after the Sunday afternoon shooting.
Police say at approximately 3 p.m., officers responded to a call of a male subject who had been shot in the arm at Martin’s home on Kilauea Road. Upon arriving to the scene, officers located the 36-year-old male victim of Kilauea. He appeared to have sustained one gunshot wound to his arm.
The victim identified the suspect to police before he was transported by medics to Wilcox Hospital for treatment. He was released from the hospital later that evening.
Police received information at the scene that Martin, still armed, may have barricaded himself in a shed on the property. As a safety precaution, officers set up a perimeter around Martin’s home and closed off Kilauea Road to pedestrians and vehicles from Titcomb Street to Kahili Quarry Road until the arrival of the Special Services Team and crisis negotiators.
Members of the SST cleared the property and confirmed that the suspect had fled the scene prior to officers' arrival.
Investigators then received information on the suspect’s whereabouts. Crisis negotiators were able to make contact with Martin and secured his surrender without incident. He was arrested at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night at a private property in Kilauea.
Martin, also of Kilauea, is currently being held on $500,000 bail.
