Search continues for missing surfer at Alligator Rock

The search for a missing surfer continues Thursday on Oahu's North Shore.

HALEIWA, Hawaii -

Rescue crews were back out Thursday morning searching for a 32-year-old man who was last seen in waters off Oahu's North Shore.

Witnesses say they saw a surfer in distress at Alligator Rock in Haleiwa at around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday.

The missing man is identified as Kirk Passmore of Haleiwa.  Passmore's partially-damaged surfboard was recovered.

The Coast Guard had been searching overnight.  Fire rescue crews and lifeguards started the search on Thursday at sunrise.
