WAILUKU, Hawaii -

A Maui man prosecutors describe as a "serial abuser" will spend 20-years in jail for assaulting, intimidating and terrorizing his ex-girlfriend.

30-year-old Gregory Garcia plead no contest to a list of charges including felony abuse and terroristic threatening.

He's accused of abusing his girlfriend in May of last year when she didn't want to have his baby.

Three months later when she tried to cut off contact with him, he beat her and took her cellphone, then sent a video to her family and co-workers showing him and the woman in sexual acts.

"He's just one of those defendants who is a serial abuse but of the worst kind," said Maui County Deputy Prosecutor Kristin Coccaro by phone Thursday.

The judge in the case handed Garcia the harsh sentence Wednesday after he said previous attempts to change his behavior failed.

The prosecutor in the case said the sentence was appropriate for a man she called "dangerous."

"He does not wear his violence on his sleeve, he has masks," Coccaro added. "He definitely has the ability to morph his personality and win over many people, which he's done in the past."

Because of the consecutive terms totaling 20-years, Garcia is not eligible for parole for 15-years.
