HALEIWA, Hawaii -

Signs were posted at Laniakea Beach on Oahu's North Shore Thursday after an aggressive shark was seen in the water, according to the city's Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division.

The alert was sent out at around 12:15 p.m.

Officials say the shark was about 8-feet-long.   People are asked not to enter the water at this area or within one mile of the sighting.

The signs were taken down at around 1:30 p.m., about four hours after the initial sighting after lifeguards on a rescue watercraft did not see a shark in the area.

If you see or encounter a shark, notify Ocean Safety Personnel or call 911 immediately.
