Honolulu police arrested and charged 21-year-old Keala Simeona with filing a false police report after investigators say she lied to investigators that she found a newborn baby at Sandy Beach.  They say she is the mother of the baby.

A 22-year-old Honolulu woman who police say reported finding a newborn on a beach that was actually her child is pleading no contest to filing a false police report.

Keala Simeona appeared before a judge in district court Thursday to plead no contest. Sentencing on the misdemeanor is scheduled for Jan. 16.

Police say she reported finding an infant girl on Sandy Beach in April and took the baby to the hospital. Police say it was later determined Simeona is the baby's mother.

Family Court was to decide whether to return the child to her family or whether parental rights would be terminated.

Simeona told the judge she works at a Jamba Juice and a movie theater. She and her attorney Franklin Don Pacarro declined to comment outside the courtroom.
