HONOLULU -

South King Street was closed between University Avenue and Kuhio Elementary School due to a suspicious package Thursday afternoon, according to Honolulu police.

The announcement came just before 2:15 p.m.

Police say this is a precautionary measure while the package is removed.

At around midday, police closed a lane on King Street just east of University Avenue.  Businesses in the area say police told them there is a suspicious package attached by string to a utility pole.

The road was reopened at around 2:50 p.m.

The Honolulu Police Department says a woman was reported seeing someone putting a package on the pole and believed the package looked suspicious.  The items in the package were not explosive or dangerous.
