HONOLULU -

Volunteers spent the day planting about 100 rare Haleakala Silverswords within the state forest reserve.

The Hawaii Government Employees Association and DLNR teamed up to help the threatened plant.

The Haleakala Silverswords came close to extinction from excessive cattle and goat grazing.
