A 15-foot-long tiger shark was spotted 400 feet offshore from Lanikai on Thursday morning, according to Ocean Safety officials.
Fire officials say a military aircraft saw the shark at around 8:20 a.m.
Ocean Safety officials did not put up signs because it is not in their jurisdiction. City officials say they informed state officials about the shark sighting.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources says Ocean Safety crews told federal lifeguards at Bellows about the shark sighting. DLNR was told Ocean Safety crews would go out to confirm the sighting. As of 4:39 p.m., DLNR had not heard back from Ocean Safety and cannot confirm the sighting.
