A Delta Air Lines flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles suffered blown tires while on the Honolulu International Airport's reef runway on Wednesday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Flight 2364 was supposed to leave Honolulu at 11:38 a.m. and arrive in Los Angeles at 7:50 p.m.

Passengers tell KITV the plane was at takeoff speed and was about to lift off of the ground when they heard a loud booming sound and felt the cabin shaking back and forth.  They say the pilot slammed on the brakes and was able to safely bring the aircraft to a halt.

Some passengers say they were grateful that this didn't happen on landing in Los Angeles.

"Let's say we landed.  Probably would have been a terrible accident.  So we're lucky in that aspect and I thank God," said Christina Murray from New York.

After the tires on the Boeing 767 blew out, fire trucks were seen on the reef runway spraying what appeared to be water on the plane.

No one was injured, according to the airport duty manager.

Delta had passengers board another plane that was scheduled to leave at around 3 p.m., according to passengers.

The airline was not available for comment.
