HONOLULU -

University of Hawaii Athletics Director Ben Jay was hospitalized overnight as the result of injuries suffered during a brawl after the UH Wahine basketball game against West Virginia Sunday night.

Jay communicated with KITV Sports Director Robert Kekaula Tuesday morning. Jay informed Kekaula that he will have a CT scan done on his back. Jay indicated he may have internal bleeding around a kidney and that he does not expect to be in the office Tuesday or Wednesday.

The fight broke out behind the West Virginia bench minutes after the Mountaineers defeated the Rainbow Wahine 59-56. Jay said he was attempting to break up the fight when he was struck on the back. He collapsed on the court but declined a trip to the hospital.

Watch KITV4 News tonight at 5 and 6 p.m. for the latest on Jay's condition.
