HONOLULU -

A United Airlines flight from Honolulu to San Francisco was cancelled Friday after smoke was seen coming from one of the engines, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Flight 724 had a mechanical problem with the engine of the Boeing 777 and takeoff was aborted at the Honolulu International Airport, according to a United Airlines spokesperson.

The flight was supposed to depart at 1:17 p.m.

The plane taxied back to the terminal under its own power.  There were 325 passengers on board.

United Airlines says passengers have been and will be accommodated on other flights.

United will inspect the engine and make repairs.  No injuries were reported.
