HONOLULU -

The latest case of vandalism has shut down 35 traffic cameras in the City & County of Honolulu.

The city says in the overnight hours from Christmas Day into Thursday, someone intentionally cut a fiber optic line in two places.  That shut off the view of traffic from Pearl City to West Oahu and in Windward Oahu.

A city official says that it appears the vandal or vandals were looking for something specific, but pointed out that there is no copper wire in the area.

The city says it may take up to 30 days to fix the problem.  Damage is estimated from $10,000 up to $15,000.
