Waianae man commemorates Good Friday

72 year old Donald Sooga trekked across the Leeward side of the island with a 14 foot cross to remind onlookers of Jesus.

WAIANAE, Hawaii -

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and 72-year-old Donald Sooga recognized the event along a Leeward coast road.

He carried a 14-foot cross he built from Waianae to Makaha. Then he trekked over to Nanakuli before heading back to where he started.

Sooga says he's not affiliated with any churches; instead he's just doing it because God told him to.

"I'm carrying this so everybody see. This is the reminder to them what happened because pretty soon Jesus is going to come," said Sooga.

Sooga says he's been doing these types of treks since 1999. He plans on carrying his cross through Waikiki sometime in the future.
