A Wailua man was hospitalized for injuries sustained in a house fire Sunday morning, according to Kauai County fire officials.
Kapaa firefighters responded to Ohana Street at around 6:45 a.m. Crews say flames covered the top half of the home.
One of the home's occupants suffered severe burns while attempting to extinguish the blaze. The 29-year-old man was initially transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital and then flown to Straub Clinic & Hospital in Honolulu.
The fire was extinguished by 8 a.m. and caused roughly $150,000 in damage to the two-story home and its contents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
