PAIA, Hawaii -

Maui County police say a 46-year-old Wailuku man died after the truck he was driving hit a coconut tree in Paia on Tuesday.

The man was identified as Harlan Masuda.

It happened at Baldwin Beach Park at around 4:20 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a white 2004 Dodge pickup truck that crashed into a coconut tree within the park.  Masuda was found inside the vehicle unresponsive and died at the scene.

Witnesses say Masuda initially drove into a parked vehicle then accelerated onto the soccer field and crashed into the coconut tree.

The cause of death is pending autopsy results.
