KAILUA, Hawaii -

Honolulu police reopened Kailua Road between Aumoe Street and Kainalu Street after a water main break on Thursday.

Board of Water Supply crews completed repairs to the road at 3:45 p.m. so traffic could resume.

The break was reported at around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The water from the break had flowed into some driveways and yards.

Water was restored at around 1:30 a.m. Friday for the 40 homes that were affected.

A Board of Water Supply crew says the closure is due to a 10-inch water main break that was originally installed in 1944.

Red Cross officials responded to assist residents in need.
