Woman, 18, dies after Hawaii Kai moped crash

An 18-year-old woman died after she was found in cardiac arrest after an apparent moped crash in Hawaii Kai Wednesday night.

HONOLULU -

An 18-year-old woman died after she was found in cardiac arrest in an apparent moped crash on a Hawaii Kai road Wednesday night.

Emergency Medical Services officials say the crash happened at around 11 p.m. near Kaiser High School.

An initial investigation shows that she lost control of h er moped and struck a metal pole.

It's unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash.  The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"If the medical examiner rules it as a heart attack, then we can alter our investigation," said Lt. Bobby Towne of the Honolulu Police Department's Traffic Division.

Police say two southbound lanes of Lunalilo Home Road were closed as officers investigated.
