A 19-year-old woman is dead after a car hit a tree in Mililani Sunday morning.
Emergency Medical officials said the woman died on arrival about 7 a.m near Kamehameha Highway and Waikalani Drive.
Police say the woman, from Mililani, was the only person in the car. They say she may have been speeding on a southbound lane of Kamehameha Hwy. before losing control of her car. It appears she hit a telephone pole before being stopped by a tree.
Police say the woman was thrown from her car during the crash.
Meanwhile, friends and family members gathered at the crash site to leave flowers and share thoughts of someone they say lost her life too soon.
Friends say the 19-year-old had two young children. They say she "lived for her family," worked two jobs and was always happy and full of life.
Police closed the south bound lanes of Kamehameha Hwy. at Leilehua Golf Course road shortly after the crash. The road was re-opened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police say it's unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash. This is the 29 traffic fatality this year, as compared to 23 this same time last year.
