MAKAWAO, Hawaii -

Maui County fire officials say a woman died after falling approximately 150 feet into a gulch in a zip line accident near the Pi'iholo Ranch Thursday morning.

Police have identified the woman as 29-year-old Patricia Rabellizsa from Kihei.  She was an employee of the Piiholo Ranch Zipline.

Fire crews responded just after 10 a.m.  A fire department helicopter was also dispatched.

Rescue efforts were hampered by difficult terrain, vegetation and tree cover and fire crews hiked on foot to the woman.  First responders conducted lifesaving efforts, but was eventually pronounced dead at the scene. She was later airlifted back up to the ridge.

Capt. Lionel Montalvo says it's not clear if the woman fell from a zip line tower or if she was on the zip line course.

Maui police are investigating the incident.
