OSU Assoc. AD accepts Hawaii job, report says
The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Ohio State's senior associate athletic director for finance and operations Ben Jay has accepted an offer to become the University of Hawaii's athletics director.
The university said Manoa Chancellor Tom Apple had met with each of two finalists, whose candidacies were advanced by a special search committee. A university spokeswoman said Thursday that Apple had pledged to keep the identities of candidates confidential in an effort to attract high-quality applicants.
An official announcement was expected Friday.
The successful candidate will replace Jim Donovan, who was given a new post following a bungled Stevie Wonder concert and athletic department fundraiser earlier this year. The university had cleared Donovan of any wrongdoing.
A state Senate report last month said the incident had tarnished the university's reputation nationally and within Hawaii.
