The 34th annual Na Wahine O Ke Kai took place on Sunday. The 41-mile trek from Molokai to Oahu was conquered by Team Bradley from Maui.
The ladies had to battle through 10-foot waves when they departed the Friendly Isle. Team Bradley arrived at Duke Kahanamoku Beach in Waikiki in 6 hours 14 minutes and 47 seconds, 45 minutes longer than last year's winner.
This is Team Bradley's seventh title in the last eight years. Bradley finished the trek a full two minutes ahead of defending champion Waikiki Beach Boys from Oahu.
A 30-year-old woman from the Lanikai Canoe Club was injured in this year's race. She suffered a dislocated shoulder when she was battling the force of the waves while in the water.
The race was last called off because of a warning issued by the Coast Guard in 1980, according to event officials. Since the Coast Guard did not issue a warning this year, it was up to each crew to decide whether or not to race.
