Arizona placed All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt on the 15-day disabled list with a broken left hand Saturday.

Goldschmidt was injured Friday night when he was hit by a pitch from Pittsburgh's Ernesto Frieri. There is no timetable for his return.

Goldschmidt, 26, was having a great follow-up season to his NL runner-up performance in 2013. He is hitting .300 with 19 homers and 69 RBIs, and he leads the majors with 39 doubles and 75 runs scored.

Arizona recalled outfielder Alfredo Marte from Triple-A Reno to replace Goldschmidt on the roster.
