NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday that there is interest in having the Pro Bowl on the mainland in 2015.
"There is interest in potentially bringing it back to the mainland in multiple sites as early as the following year," said Goodell.
Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, said, "We are having ongoing discussions with the NFL and look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship."
Goodell did confirm that the 2014 Pro Bowl in Honolulu will be played a week before the Super Bowl.
"We think that that works well from season standpoint and finishing the season on a high note with the Super Bowl," said Goodell.
The commissioner says the big focus the league had had at its 2013 spring meeting in Boston is changing the format of the Pro Bowl.
The players would be chosen as they are now by players, coaches and fans. There's a proposal by players that the teams would be drafted by captains instead of separated by conferences.
"We think it's exciting. It could have some fun attached to it," said Goodell.
That change could be implemented as early as the 2014 Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
